Rippa Rugby with Garth from Team Energize

ANZAC Discoveries Term 2
We had a wonderful time learning about the World Wars and the people and animals who served us this year. Experiences ranged from a school cenotaph commemoration, a wonderful talk by Major Patterson, a visit to Memorial Park and the education session at the Waikato Museum. The children were wonderfully interested and participated enthusiastically.

Term 1 Newsletter, 2015
Thursday 5th February

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to school everyone and a special hello to all our new year 2 children! I’m sure that we will have a really wonderful learning time together this year. We currently have 17 children in the class.

Our major curriculum focuses this term will include: Number (Maths), Surf Aware (a Social Science, P.E. and Science unit), Swimming (PE)-followed by Swimming Sports at the Event Centre on the evening of Thursday 5th  February. We will also be doing a variety of other topics and units throughout the term.

Our first school trip will be to Ngarunui Beach, Raglan, on Friday 20th February  for the Surf Aware Programme.

Our homework and class routines this term will include:
*     School readers home on Monday to Thursday (no book bag, no book).
*     Poem folders for weekend reading.
*     Maths homework we will be doing basic facts and counting only for the next 4 weeks, see the attached sheet or Year 2 starter kit.
*     Library book exchange on Friday afternoon before assembly.
*     Swimming togs (in a waterproof bag) are needed every day this term.

Your child is welcome to bring a named water bottle to keep in the classroom. These should be taken home every day to clean and refill.

Please feel free to contact me if you are unsure of anything.
See you all soon!

The following lists are Maths Basic Facts. Please spend the next 4 weeks helping your child to become fluent with these number sentences for their maths homework rather than the homework book. Year 2 children are to work on their counting numbers in the kit first.
It is important that your child knows the facts within 5 and 10 as soon as possible.

By the end of Year 2 children are expected to know all of the Stage 4 facts. Year 3 children will also need to know the 2x, 5x and 10x tables (Stage 5).
